DIY Scented Pine Cones

The other day, my boys and I took a trip to JoAnn Fabrics to get a little something for a project I will be blogging about soon. Upon walking into the store, the smell of Cinnamon hits you big time! It smelled wonderful, however Cinnamon is just not my favorite smell, especially for Fall. I figured, why couldn't I make my own scented pine cones with a scent that smells like Fall?!

First, we headed to a spot where I knew there were tons of pine cones just hanging out on the ground. Of course, my boys were more than happy to help me pick out a bag full of them.

Then, we headed up to one of my favorite stores, BATH AND BODYWORKS. I love that place. It always smells so wonderful.

We picked out a scented oil, Leaves. It smells like Fall in a bottle. These are awesome for the oil burners too! Can I just tell you how much I love Fall smells...Delish!!

We got the supplies home and put all the pine cones in a plastic grocery bag. I actually doubled it up just to make sure there was no mess. I then added about 15-25 drops of the oil all over the pine cones and tied up the bag.

I stuck them up on top the fridge for 24 hours so the pine cones could really absorb the scent.

And here they sit on either side of my couch. Some in a hurricane.

And some in a galvanized pot. They make my living room smell so delicious and just like Fall. This was so easy, and so inexpensive. I encourage you to give it a try!

  1. Oh this looks like such a fun and easy project! Question, did you actually put the bag of pinecones INSIDE the fridge or just on top of the fridge? Sorry, maybe I read that wrong :) I would love to try this. I love cinnamon smell but in Florida, Fall doesn't really happen til November :( I still want Fall smells though! Thanks for sharing

  2. What a great idea! I have giant pine trees lining my street and I am constantly picking up pine cones with no idea what to do with them! I'm gonna give this idea a try. Thanks for sharing. Happy Fall!

  5. One more reason I miss living in NC! We don't have a single pine cone here. :( But this looks like such a great idea, I'm going to have to buy some. I don't like cinnamon for Fall (its totally a Christmas smell) either, but the smell of a Pumpkin Spice candle... Mmmmmmm!
