Popcorn: Our Family's Favorite Treat

This is a family favorite! My husband learned how to make this from our friend Aaron.(Thanks Snoop!) This is so easy to make, plus it's cheaper than microwave popcorn and tastes so much better. First, you'll need a bag of popcorn kernels. These cost around $2. You'll want about 1/2 Cup.
Second, you'll need about 3 TBSP of Veggie oil. Better for you than the stuff they put into microwave popcorn!

Third, use a heavy bottom pan and put it on the stove at medium heat. Pour in your oil and one kernel of popcorn. Put the lid on and wait to the one kernel to pop! When it pop's, the pan and oil is ready for the rest of the popcorn kernels. Toss them in, put on the lid, swirl it around and wait for them to pop. It's that EASY!

When done popping, pour into a bowl and sprinkle on your favorite topping. Our favorite is Johnny's Seasoning Salt. You can use anything from regular table salt to garlic salt or even Parmesan cheese. Whatever floats your boat!

Finally, Eat and Enjoy!

  1. For some reason I only think of eating popcorn in a movie theatre. I should go make some! Thanks for the tip!

  2. My family has always made stove top popped corn too. I put Lawry's seasoning right in the oil when I put the seeds in. Also, we use Can't Believe It's Not Butter spray ... it's yummy !!

  3. Mmm, I love popcorn. We have a popper we got as a gift so we just use that, but I think Martha Stewart has some great seasoning ideas.

  4. We love to make popcorn the old-fashioned way too. It just tastes so much better! Did you know that there are a lot of harmful chemicals in the microwave popcorn bags that leach into the popcorn as it pops? I had no idea until I came across an article last year. Anyway, thanks for linking up at The Speckled Dog!
